Document Classification Workgroup Mission
Purpose
The purpose of MISMO’s Residential Document Classification Workgroup is to create a standardized method for exchanging information about documents. The Document Classification workgroup has established conventions for identifying unique document types, naming documents, and defining documents. The common identification, definition and naming of documents (and additional document-related metadata) is critical to enabling the vision of “lights-out” processing of electronic documents and related data.
High Level Goal
Today image and data files are commonly exchanged among business partners in addition to and in-lieu of hardcopy paper documents. Our goal is to provide for common definition and naming of documents (and of document-related metadata) to facilitate the automation of document exchange. To that end the Document Classification workgroup has established a Document Data Dictionary (“DDD”), which includes standardized information about document types, subtypes, groups, descriptions, and related information.
The Document Data Dictionary provides a similar benefit to that of the MISMO Logical Data Dictionary (LDD): it provides a more precise vocabulary for passing information between business partners. The use of MISMO Document Types provides a uniform way to transfer document images – by mapping to this MISMO standard – eliminating the need to map document types and related metadata between the unique imaging system implementations of each business partner.
The workgroup recognizes that document transfers within companies and between partners spans the spectrum from paper to fully electronic. Our goal is to develop a work product that is useful across this spectrum, and can provide benefit to existing document exchange processes as well as fully electronic mortgage transaction processes as they continue to evolve.

The following tools are used by the Secondary Workgroup:
- Lyris Email Listserv:
- General communication
- Meeting Announcements (actual agendas and documents will be linked to in the body of the e-mail rather than being attached)
- Wiki:
- Meeting Agendas (with links to documents in Sharepoint)
- Meeting Minutes (with links to documents and/or issues discussed)
- Task List (where assigned tasks are kept track of)
- Issues and Parking Lot (where issues, resolutions ,and discussions regarding these will be kept).
- Discussion Topics
- Issues and Parking Lot (where topics are parked that need future discussion. .i.e. we know about this, but will address it later).
- Sharepoint:
- All documents (word docs, pdfs, excel files, etc.)
- Schemas and Contivo Files
- Excel:
- The Workgroup will use Excel to manage data points for the new proposed 3.x transactions until they are defined. This was decided because people were much more comfortable and familiar with Excel. This will not be the permanent solution, but a temporary tool used to more rapidly accomplish workgroup tasks.
- Contivo Builder: this will be used after the workgroup has determined all the business issues and data points necessary for a transaction.
