| Builder |
The semantic modeling application used by MISMO. This Contivo product is used to manage MISMO’s Logical Data Dictionary (LDD) as well as Process Area Schemas. |
| Chair |
The leader of a MISMO Workgroup. Responsible for facilitating workgroup meetings and deliverables. |
| Core Data Structures |
The MISMO Workgroup responsible for ensuring that consistent data definitions and business information is utilized across all of the MISMO real estate finance specifications |
| Core Data Structures Representative |
Each Workgroup designates a member to act a Core Data Structures Representative. This member acts as a liaison between the Workgroup and core, bringing workgroup data items to core for review. |
| Council of Chairs |
A MISMO Group consisting of Chairs/Representatives from each workgroup as well as MBA Staff. The Council of Chairs coordinates efforts across workgroups and does some project management activities using the Work Request Process. |
| D3 |
Acronym for Design, Develop, Deploy. The MISMO Workgroup responsible for overseeing the Version 3.0 (v3.0) efforts. Using data modeling and relational concepts, the group recommends consistent data structure usage for new specifications development. Group overseeing creation of the MISMO Engineering Guidelines. |
| Governance |
The Governance Committee, elected from a cross section of the industry, provides oversight for MISMO‘s administration and policy development |
| IPR Policy |

| LDD |
Logical Data Dictionary—The collection of the detailed data point names and definitions used in all MISMO transaction specifications. The v3.0 LDD will also include definitions for containers and metadata. |
| Listserv |
An automated mailing list server used by MISMO to broadcast MISMO e-mail discussions to all participants in each MISMO Workgroup. See the Listserv Signup Form . |
| MEG |
This acronym stands for MISMO Engineering Guideline. A MEG is a topic-based document that describes some aspect of the practical details how MISMO Specifications are created. For example, there is a MEG which describes how MISMO uses XML Namespaces. Collectively, these MEGS compose the complete MISMO Design Specifications and Guidelines. |
| MISMO |
Mortgage Industry Standards Maintenance Organization. Established as an independent affiliate of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) to coordinate the development and maintenance of Internet based Extensible Markup Language (XML) real estate finance specifications |
| MXCompliance |
A MISMO service that can certify a given implementation as being conformant with the MISMO Specification. Certification grants an organization the use of the “MISMO Compliant” Certification Mark. See the MXCompliance Site for more details. |
| Non-Subscriber |
A Company or individual that participates in MISMO, but not as a formal Subscriber (see below). A non-subscriber does not pay dues. A non-subscriber is ineligible to run for a seat on the Governance Committee or for a workgroup leadership position without a waiver from Governance. Non-subscribers do not get to participate in formal MISMO votes, but can participate in workgroup-level informal votes. Non-Subscribers pay a nominal registration fee for attendance at MISMO events. |

| Process Area |
A grouping of related business process areas in which certain MISMO Specifications may be used. Process Areas and Workgroups are sometimes synonymous, but in cases like the Origination workgroup, a single workgroup can encompass multiple process areas (Application, Underwriting, and Closing in that case) |
| Reference Model |
The v3.0 common architecture and logical model that promotes a centralized view of the mortgage transaction. |
| Release |
When a MISMO specification is approved as a standard, it is released and becomes available to the general public in the Specification List section of the MISMO site. |
| Sharepoint |
MISMO’s subscribers-only collaboration environment is hosted using Microsoft’s Sharepoint collaboration portal . The site hosts all of the working materials and drafts that precede the release of a public specification. The site can be found here . |
| Subscriber |
A company that subscribes to MISMO pays annual dues and is eligible to vote, can sponsor candidates for any MISMO leadership positions, and can send representatives to MISMO events at no charge. |
| Subscriber-Representative |
The individual that acts as a point person for a Subscriber Company. |
| Trimester |
Short for “Trimester Workgroup Meeting”. MISMO holds three face to face working meetings annually. Major votes (such as final approval of standards) tend to be taken at Trimester meetings. |
| Version 2, V2, 2.x, |
Indicates the Current production major version of MISMO. This implies a set of consistent XML standards and practices that are distinct from other major versions – such as the use of XML Attributes to contain “leaf” data elements. |
| Version 3.0, v3.0 |
Indicates the Next major version of MISMO. This implies a set of consistent XML standards and practices that are distinct from other major versions – such as the use of XML Elements to contain “leaf” data elements. |
| Vice Chair |
Along with the Chair, responsible for facilitating workgroup meetings and deliverables |
| Work Request |
A document detailing major MISMO work to be performed. Work Requests are managed by the Council of Chairs and serve to provide visibility across work groups of major initiatives. |
| Workgroup, WG |
A formally-chartered organization within MISMO tasked with addressing one or more concrete aspects of the standards-setting process. A workgroup generally has a listserv, meets for regular conferences calls and face-to-face meetings, and has an official Chair and Vice-Chair |
| Wiki |
The original idea behind Wikis was to create a collaborative, fast environment which would still be persistent. Wikis emphasizes content, convenience, and accessibility and a higher level of collaboration. MISMO‘s Wiki is based on the JSPWiki platform and is used to manage the v3.0 MEGs, the v3.0 Arhcitecture WG Task List, and other collateral items from various MISMO WGs. MISMO‘s Wiki is available to all MISMO participants. |
| Zero-Delta Schema |
A version of a v2.x Specification ported to XML Schema form. The term zero-delta is meant to show that these schemas should be identical from a structure and business rule perspective to the v2.x DTDs from which they are derived (to the extent possible)
