Purpose
 

1. Introduction

MISMO is leveraging a sophisticated XML modeling tool in order to create, manage and publish the Version 3.x Reference model and associated messages. The tool has proven quite powerful and helpful in pushing the overall effort forward however at the same time is complex and requires significant training in order to effectively navigate. In addition, the tool is not designed to accept multiple updates from different people simultaneously.

In order for MISMO to effective use the tool and ensure the intergrity of the underlying data model, certain process and procedure needs to be developed.

1.1 Audience

MISMO Staff and all MISMO participants engaged in the standard development effort.

1.2 Terminology

The key words “MUST”, “MUST NOT”, “REQUIRED”, “SHALL”, “SHALL NOT”, “SHOULD”, “SHOULD NOT”, “RECOMMENDED”, “MAY”, and “OPTIONAL” in this document are to be interpreted as described in RFC 2119. See «add reference to MISMO glossary for terminology used in this MEG».

1.3 Document Status

The information supplied in this document reflects the MISMO interoperability principles at the time of writing. It is a living document, which will be updated as required to reflect the evolving nature of XML technologies and service requirements identified by MISO constituency. Comments on this document should be sent to the MISMO designated contact identified in the document preface. MISMO does not accept any liability for the accuracy, adequacy or completeness of the information contained in these Guidelines.

2. Rationale for this MEG

Provide guidance on how MISMO Staff and MISMO participants will interact with the XML management tool when attempting to advance the standard through additions or modifications.

Ref Guideline
39.1 MISMO SHALL manage the residential data standards through the use of a vocabulary based XML Schema development tool. The tool is a desktop application that allows MISMO participants to capture business requirements, definitions and structure in a shared vocabulary model. The tool provides the interface to MISMO‘s Version 3 Reference Model.
39.2 The tool SHALL be offered free to all MISMO participants and can be downloaded on the MISMO Web site.
39.3 Ultimate authority and custodianship of the MISMO Reference Model SHALL reside with the MISMO Staff role. MISMO Management will be responsible for making updates to the model and distributing the appropriate output. All MISMO participants shall have access to the various versions of the model however the authoritative copy will reside with MISMO Staff.
39.4 At the discretion of the MISMO Management, other qualified MISMO participants MAY be granted authority to make updates to the model.
39.5 To address version control in an environment in which multiple parties might be making changes to the model MISMO SHALL utilize the check-in/check-out functionality of the SharePoint repository.
39.5.1 If MISMO Staff or an approved MISMO participant wants to make changes they MUST check the file out from the designated location in SharePoint. If the file is already checked out by another user, the user MUST NOT make updates to the model.
39.5.2 Once the MISMO Staff Role or approved MISMO participant has completed relevant updates, the file SHALL be checked back in to the repository.
